Does anyone know which credit bureau American Express uses to review your credit history?

Kevin V asked:

I want to apply for an Amex credit card, but would first like to know which of the three credit bureaus is used determine credit worthiness. I am curious because all three of my credit scores are significantly different.

They seem to prefer pulling Experian the most.
Equifax seems to be their distant second choice.
Trans Union seems to be their very, very distant third choice.

Your miles may vary, but the chances that they will pull Experian is greater then the chance they will pull one of other two.

For current account holders, Amex uses Experian on a fairly regular monthly basis to do soft pulls for the basic account checks and for (ugh) account reviews.

It probably differes, I would contact the branch you are applying to and see. Or look at the number on the paper application and ask which bureau they pull their reports from.

Experian is the primary choice by Amex.
If your Experian is blocked, they will pull Trans Union or Equifax.
